International College to Open in Bunbury

Bunbury will soon become the gateway for overseas students to access quality English education outside the metro area. The West Coast International College of English will open to adult students from around the globe on Monday August 1.

Director David Byatt first conceived of the College when he and his wife returned to south-west in 2003 after living and teaching in Japan. "It was then that I really started to appreciate how much the south-west has to offer, and I wanted to share it with my overseas friends. I thought, 'there has to be a way to ensure that people from other countries can come and see what a great lifestyle we have here', and our College will provide this opportunity," Mr. Byatt said.

Mr. Byatt believes that West Coast College will stimulate new international friendships. "What excites me most about the college is that friendships formed here will create global opportunities, and bring the world a little closer to everyone involved. I sincerely hope our students will return to the south-west time and again, and begin to think of it as their second home."

Students will study full-time General English courses ranging from Beginner to Advanced. In addition to classroom-based English study, West Coast College plans to incorporate local culture by including specialist guest speakers, interactive workshops and volunteer activities in their curriculum.
